Meeting With MPs
On March 15th We Ride London were asked to present to the 'All Party Parliamentary Group (APG) For Motorcycling'. Dutch, Charley and Mike joined the meeting alongside the following Lords and MPs:
- Lord Craigavon
- Chris Law MP
- Fabian Hamilton MP
- Sammy Wilson MP
- Lord Lucius Falkland
As you would imagine they are all riders themselves, many of them riding to parliament on their bikes including one of the lords on his Guzzi California!
We walked the group through our campaign objectives, specifically that we are trying to lobby national and London governmental bodies to:
- Protect lane widths to allow safe filtering
- Exclude motorcycles & scooter from congestion and pollution charging
- Allow universal use of bus lanes as pioneered by TfL (nationally)
- Provide adequate secure motorcycle parking
- Increase action against bike theft and bike-jacking
We had a great meeting, overrunning our slot due to questions. The APG was very engaged and to a certain extend we were preaching to the converted. We Ride London has been asked back and the APG discussed raising a debate in parliament and a potentially parliamentary inquiry into the matter! An inquiry would be fascinating as we would see multiple policy makers called for evidence and it would raise the profile of our cause even further.
Leon Manning from MAG also presented at the same APG and many of his topics were similar to We Ride London's. It's great we are all striving for the same thing!
